Membership Development.
Definition of Rotary.
Rotary is a an organisation of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world. (Memorise these 31 Words)
Rotary “Firsts”
First Rotary Club Meeting Chicago, Illinois 23rd February 1905.
First Regular Luncheon meetings were in Oakland, California chartered in 1909.
First Rotary Convention was in Chicago in 1910.
The first Rotary club outside of U.S.A. was in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada in 1910.
The first Rotary club outside North America was in Dublin Ireland in 1911.
Rotary clubs are now spread over 200 countries throughout the world.
Object of Rotary
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthwhile enterprise.

First Names or Nicknames.
From earliest days first names were used since personal acquaintanceship and friendship is the cornerstones of Rotary.
Four Avenues of Service.
Club Service. All activities necessary to make their club function successfully.
Vocational Service. The Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to the other members of his club.
Community Service. Assistance to members of his community.
International Service. The Advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.

The Sponsor of a new Member.
To obtain membership there must be a sponsor.(In this Add for Members the Club Membership – Development per is the sponsor.
(1) On receiving completed application form:-
(2) Present it to Executive Committee for approval.
(3) Letter to each club member for approval.
(4) After SEVEN days (If no rejections)
(5)Invite the Candidate to Club for lunch
(6) Induction of Candidate into club.
(7)Assign a Rotarian to look after new Rotarian for one year.
Women in Rotary.
Females have been members of Rotary Clubs since 1989.
Rotary World Headquarters.
A Modern 18 Story Building in Evanston Chicago of some 400,000 Square feet.

(1) Paul Harris Fellowship established in 1957
ForContributers of $1000 to the Rotary Foundation.
2. The Rotary Emblem was printed on a memorial stamp for the first time in
1931 at the time of the Vienna Convention.
3 The Rotary Club Banner (From the Houston Space Centre) to Orbit the
Moon was carried by astronaut Frank Borman, A member of that Club.
4 The First head of state to address a Rotary Convention was US President
Warren G Harding in 1923 at st Louis.
Rotary’s Birthplace
Rotary Room 711 of Old Unity Building at 127 North Dearborn St in Downtown Chicago, Illinoius, USA. –That Historic Room was the Office of engineer Gus Loehr the first meeting place of Paul Harris and friends the Founder of Rotary.
World Understanding Month.
The Month of February is special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated World Understanding Month.
This Month is also the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on the 23rd of February 1905.
Many Clubs plan special activities to celebrate this month.
The Classification Principle
One member of each Profession or business in each club.
Exchange of club banners
It is an old tradition to exchange Banners or Pennants when travelling to distant locations as a token of Friendship.
Attendance Rules.
50% attendance in any 6 months required.
Must attend at least 30% in own club in any 6 months.
5 apologies in any 6 months for good reason.
Govern Body of Club can make allowances.
Sharing Rotary with new Members.
You are obliged to share Rotary with all qualified l members IN YOUR AREA.
Only a Rotarian can propose a Customer, Neighbour, Client, Supplier, Executive, Relative, and Business associate, Professional or other qualified person to join a Rotary Club.
You must Know At Least One person who should belong to rotary.
Tolerance of Differences.
What is accepted and legal in one country is not in another.
We are dedicated to World Peace and understanding, it behoves Rotarians to be understanding.
Invocations at Club Meetings.
It is customary to open meetings with thanksgiving for the food about to be consumed.
And close with a TOAST to Rotary International.

Date time and place of meetings in your District is in a District Directory which is issued to each member annually.
Opportunities for Fellowship.
Most Rotarians are successful professional and business executives because the HEAR OPPORTUNITIES KNOCK and take advantage of them. WEEKLY MEETINGS opportunity knocks (But not all HEAR IT Knock. (Attend) )
Weekly Meetings are a special Privilege of Rotary Members.

For help in Refugee Camps, Remote Clinics, Makeshift Hospitals and Primitive Villages.

Through the Massive effort of Rotary to eradicate polio throughout the World -rotary is nearly there.
Disaster Relief Program.
When great natural tragedy strikes some area in the world – Rotary is there to help.
The Disaster Relief Fund is one of the significant ways that gifts to the Rotary foundation build goodwill and understanding around the world.
Paul Harris Fellows.
The most important step to promote voluntary giving to the Rotary Foundation Fund.
Available to Rotarians who give $iooo.to the foundation fund or deemed a deserving case by their club.

In the Annual Rotary Calendar several months are designated to emphasize major programs of Rotary International.
